My last wedding of the main wedding season was an awesome one! Holger & Eva contacted me about 6 weeks before their wedding, and while I was already booked for the day before and usually don’t take on 2 weddings in a weekend, I knew it would be a wonderful wedding in location I had never shot at before, and did not want to pass that up!
I met up with Holger & Eva at their apartment for a few detail and getting ready shots. After Eva slipped into her gorgeous 1920s inspired wedding gown, I headed over to the church. They chose to get married in St. Lukas Church, right on the banks of the Isar and only a few short minutes from their home. Although I had been past the church many times (its hard to miss because its HUGE), I had never been inside. Well wow, St. Lukas is just as impressive inside as it is outside. They had a beautiful ceremony led by a very young, down-to-earth minister.
After the ceremony, Eva & Holger were picked up by a Ricksha and were taken to the Bayrisches Nationalmuseum, which is where they decided to hold their cocktail hour and evening Reception. After living in Munich for so long, I had never been to this museum, and I don’t even remember ever driving past it, so I certainly didn’t know you could have weddings and parties there! Because the weather Gods were good that weekend and blessed us with BEAUTIFUL weather, Holger, Eva and their guests got to enjoy the cocktail hour outside on the terrace.
After about 2 hours the guests headed home or to their hotels to relax a bit and change for the evening reception. That’s when I snuck off with Eva & Holger for some portraits of just the 2 of them :) The museum grounds are absolutely beautiful, a perfect, romantic setting for wedding portraits :) Eva & Holger had the great idea to go down the street and get some shots of them watching the surfers on the Eisbach…how cool is that?!?! I love when brides & grooms want to do something a bit different :) And, believe it or not, after all these years living in Munich, that was my first time watching the surfers :)
Soon after we got back to the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum the first guests started to arrive. The restaurant was decorated beautifully, and had great atmosphere. After some Welcome Drinks, the guests were seated and before long the first of 3 courses was served. The food was amazing, and the wait staff was super friendly and accommodating. Between courses the fathers of the bride & groom as well as the best man gave their speeches all of which led to a lot of laughs :) One of the highlights of the evening came when Eva sang a song for Holger. Eva is actually a member of the awesome band that played at their wedding, Definitely Soul, and I was sooo hoping she would perform :) Needless to say she has an amazing voice! After the delicious dessert, Holger & Eva opened up the dance floor with a classic Wiener Waltzer :)
Once again, this was a wedding of many firsts for me :) Thats one of the things I love about my job, there’s always something different, something new whether it be the location, a special tradition, or the bride jamming with her band :) Add in amazing weather, great locations, so many beautiful people and some of the cutest kids ever and that just makes one great wedding package :) I also got to recruit one of the kids to be my assistant for the day, that was fun, I even let him shoot with my favourite lens ever, which probably weighs as much as he does :) So as I mentioned before..great way to end my main wedding season :)
Holger & Eva, thank sou both so much for letting me be a part of your special day! I had so much fun with you both, especially during the portrait session! I loved how open you were to everything, and how cool Eva was with dragging her dress through the Englischer Garten and collecting that big pile of leaves :) I’m sure your wedding flew by for you as it did for me, so hopefully these photos can help re-cap the day for you :)
