Its official! My wedding season 2013 has begun!!! And what a great kick-off wedding this was!
I know it’s been awhile, but you might still recognize Manuela & Michael from their engagement session last fall. They were one of the first couples to book for 2013, and of course at that point the wedding always seems so far away…then time flies by as usual and the day just creeps up on you! I was so excited, I couldn’t wait to get my wedding season started! My excitement grew even more about a week before the wedding when Manuela and I went down to their wedding location, Hermannsdorfer, to chat about the last details and also so I can have a look at the location. We spent about 6 hours together and had a blast! And I totally fell in love with the location. I don’t know why I’ve never been there before or even heard of it, but what a cool place! So needless to say, their big day couldn’t get here soon enough for me, and I’m sure for them as well :)
Now, anyone who’s been following the weather in Germany lately knows we’ve had pretty much nothing but rain, and winter-like temperatures for about 3 weeks. No matter how many times I checked the weather app and 10 different weather sites, it all said the same…so atleast we were all well prepared when all it did was rain on Manuela & Michael’s big day lol. That said, I really don’t think anyone paid much attention to what it was doing outside. It was such a beautiful day spent celebrating the love of an amazing couple…so who cares what the weather Gods had planned?!
Manuela & Michael started the day off with their civil ceremony at the Standesamt in the Alte Klosterschule in Glonn. Within the first few minutes there was already so much emotion to capture between the laughter and the tears of joy, I knew it would be a great day! After the short but sweet ceremony, and a battle with some ‘runaway’ balloons, we headed around the corner to Hotel Schwaiger for a traditional Weisswurst Breakfast! The weisswurst, pretzels and alcohol free Weissbier helped refuel the guests for the rest of the day as the main part was still to come!
Once everyone’s bellies were full, we made our way over to the hotel rooms to start getting ready for the 2nd part of the day. I love when brides & grooms get ready in the same hotel, it makes it easy for me to sneak over to the guys’ room and get some getting ready shots of the groom too. I always get a kick out of the fact that while the bride starts getting ready about 2-3 hours before, the groom usually throws everything on in a bout 10 minutes and is good to go lol. Something just isn’t fair about that :D I also loved that Manuela & Michael planned in plenty of time for this part of the day, there was no rushing, no stressing, they were able to relax a bit and have some more laughs with their friends and family.
I absolutely love getting ready shots..its always one of my favorite parts of the day, and at Manuela & Michael’s wedding it was no different. Watching the transformation of Manuela from a beautiful, radiant woman to a beautiful, radiant bride was amazing, and watching her Mom watch in awe and proudly help Manuela slip into her dress and close it up was really one of the sweetest things and it brought a huge smile to my face :) Before we knew it, it was time to make the short trip over to Hermannsdorfer for the non-denominational ceremony.
It was originally planned to have the ceremony outside, but that probably would have resulted in several drownings, so plans were changed and the ceremony was held inside the Schweinsbraeu Wirtshaus. The great thing about Hermannsdorfer is that inside is also absolutely beautiful, so this was one of those back-up plans, that didn’t really feel like a back-up plan at all. And I really have to give props to Hermannsdorfer for being so flexible and accommodating… they were amazing throughout the entire night! The ceremony was beautiful…from the music, to the self written vows, to the looks Manuela & Michael gave each other, to the laughter…it was just a perfect ceremony all around!
Sometime between the ceremony and dinner I managed to sneak Manuela & Michael off for some portraits. As I mentioned before, the interior of Hermannsdorfer is breathtaking, so the fact that an outdoors shoot was out of the questions didn’t rain on our parade one bit :D We made great use of the ‘center piece’ of the restaurant, which is a beautiful, romantic staircase. And since I actually kind of like the rain (shh don’t tell anyone!), I had to persuade Manuela & Michael to step outside with me for a few seconds to get atleast one romantic ‘walking in the rain’ shot. Michael was a bit harder to convince than Manuela, she was pretty much game right from the beginning, but my persuasion skills paid off and we got a few romantic rain shots afterall :D
The guests were then in for a real treat when dinner was served…the food at Hermannsdorfer is amazing! I don’t know about the other tables, but at the table where I was seated, I don’t think there was a crumb left on anyone’s plates! After the main course was served, Manuela & Michael opened the dance floor! After everyone shoot their booties for awhile, the dessert buffet was open, with the main feature being Manuela & Michael’s wedding cake… it was absolutely delicious! Then again, considering it was made by Hermannsdorfer I wasn’t really expecting anything else :) The rest of the night was spent catching up with friends and family from near and far, and dancing the night away!
I’m so glad I got to share Manuela & Michael’s day with them! Not only are they one of the sweetest couples, Manuela’s smile is absolutely contagious and your really can’t help but to smile and laugh with her! And both of their families were so sweet and warm, they made me feel welcome right from the beginning.
Manuela & Michel, I hope these pictures show the warmth of the day, and that in 50 years when looking back at them, you won’t think about the bad weather, but the wonderful time had with your families and friends and all the love you were surrounded by.
Enjoy your sneak peak! :)
