Here it is!! My last wedding of 2013!
I got to end my 2013 wedding season in a great way…with a beautiful couple in a beautiful location and a small, intimate wedding! Talk about going out with a bang:)
Megan & Matt are from the US and decided to have a destination wedding in Europe! When Megan first contacted me about photographing her and MAtt’s special day, plans were still a bit up in the air regarding location..they were originally considering Innsbruck, Austria but ended up choosing Garmish as their dream wedding location, which also happens to be one of my favourite places in Germany :)
We started the day in the Kloster Hotel Ludwig der Bayer where Megan, her Bridesmaids and Mom were busy getting ready for the day ahead. This gave me some time to also capture some of the special details such as Megan’s Edelweiss bouquet, her wedding day jewellery, and a special watch that was worn by several generations of women in Matt’s family on their wedding day. Of course there were also some very special moments during this time as well, such as Megan reading a letter from Matt, the moment where Megan’s Dad and brothers saw her for the first time in her gorgeous wedding gown, and of course the intimate moment when Matt first saw his bride :)
When we were finished at the hotel we headed across the street to the Ettal Abbey for Megan & Matt’s formal portraits. Megan is definitely one tough cookie because it wasn’t exactly warm outside and she didn’t flinch or complain about the cold at all! I love that they planned in plenty of time for this part of the day so they were able to relax and enjoy their time together without stressing about a time limit and being relaxed is key to natural looking photos. Add to that the fact that Megan & Matt are so photogenic and such a cute couple, not to mention super stylish, their photos were bound to turn out awesome :) I also had a lot of fun with them trying to dodge nosey tourists, and I really hope Megan did not have Pneumonia the next day as one pleasant German man so kindly pointed out was going to be the case :D We even had plenty of time to get a bunch of group shots before the ceremony…this entire group was just so photogenic and so easy to photograph! :)
By this point the suns as slowly starting to go down and it was starting to get quite chilly, so we all headed inside the Abbey where the ceremony would take place. I managed to get in a few more shots of Megan and Matt in front of the alter before their ceremony began. The ceremony itself was beautiful, very relaxed and intimate. Being that it was just a few days after Christmas, there were still a few Christmas trees lit up in the church. Glowing Christmas trees are always kind of a magical thing to me, maybe its because I love Christmas so much, but put them in such an impressive church and what you have is really a special, romantic feeling. And being that the sun had already set, the atmosphere in the church wight he trees and chandeliers was very calming and very intimate…I loved it!
After the ceremony we all headed into Garmisch-Partenkirchen where Megan & Matt had planned to have dinner with their guests. The Werdenfelser Hof is a traditional Bavarian restaurant, which gave their guests a nice little taste of Bavaria :) After a few great speeches and toasts everyone was ready to eat and my job was done.
Megan & Matt, I hope your day was everything you had hoped it would be and more! It was so great to finally meet you and your wonderful families :) And thank you for being so patient, I hope you enjoy your sneak peek :)
