I love when brides & grooms completely throw out the old school “rules” when it comes to planning a wedding, and that is exactly what Hanna & Karl did! Their wedding was 100% HANNA & KARL.. not the wedding the internet, friends or family said they have to have, but a wedding that was all about what they wanted, no matter how many “rules” they broke. When I met them a few months ago and we chatted about their wedding and what they have planned, a few key words that caught my attention were: dinosaurs, VW Billy Bus, and a Rock-a-Billy bar. And of course the fact that Hanna was planning on making her own cake!! As if a bride doesn’t already have a lot going on the days leading up to a wedding, she took on this daunting task herself :)
They had their civil ceremony in the Standesamt at the KVR in Munich. The official did a really nice job with the ceremony, and I loved watching Hanna & Karl literally glow with happiness… and every once in awhile. Karl would grab Hanna’s hand and give it a sweet kiss. I can’t help having a huge cheesy grin on my face during ceremonies like this, where you can really see the love and excitement in everyone…that’s part of why I love my job so much!
After the short ceremony, we all headed over to Gasthof Hinterbrühl where we spent most of the afternoon. I got to ride along in Hanna & Karl’s very own VW Bulli Bus!! It was so cool!! And so much fun..I loved seeing all of the reactions of people we passed on the street :D
Once we got to Hinterbrühl the guests had a chance to mingle of some sparkling wine outside, before heading in for lunch. After a traditional Bavarian meal, I took off with Hanna & Karl for a few minutes for some portrait photos. Once again, they were beaming with love..which really makes my job easy :D Then we headed back inside for cake. Remember I said Hanna made the cake herself? I was really impressed at the awesome attention to detail she put in…from the little dinosaurs by a pond and pile of burried eggs, to the vulcano with lava running down it…not to mention the super cute cake toppers!! They were really the perfect way to top the cake! And I have to say, the cake was quite delicious too :D
Soon after the cake was gobbled up, we left Hinterbrühl and went on a bus tour of Munich! There were a lot of guests from out of town, some even from out of the country, so this was a nice little way to give them a tour of the city Hanna & Karl call home :) It was done in a bit of a hop-off, hop-on style, starting at Schloss Nymphenburg, then BMW Welt, Königsplatz and ending up at Hofgarten. We only had a few minutes at each location and managed to get a large group photo at each location, which I thought was a really cute idea :)
After the last stop, we headed over to Wasserwerk, a Rock-a-Billy bar owned by Hanna & Karl’s friends. A few more guests were already waiting for us there, and the bartenders were waiting with a pretty awesome welcome drink that tasted like a strawberry cream creamcicle :D They even had an improvised drinks menu with drinks named after Hanna & Karl..how neat is that?!
After some dancing and mingling, Hanna got right up on the bar to toss her bouquet :D Soon after that, my job was done, but I”m pretty sure they party continued into the early hours of the next day :D
Hanna & Karl, thanks so much for including me in your wonderfully unique wedding! It was definitely a wedding to remember! I hope this inspires other brides and grooms to think outside of the box and get creative :D
